President Jeffrey Handelman

Jeffrey is a lifelong member of Congregation Agudat Achim, and is currently in his fifth year on the Board.  He has served on the Executive Committee for three years and was a member of the Religious School Board for three years, where he was co-chair of the search committee for the Religious School Director.  He has also chaired the Joseph Cohen Memorial lecture.  Jeffrey is the Deputy Director of Human Resources and Administration for the New York State School Boards Association, where he has been employed since 1992. 

He and his wife, Eileen, have two children who are 5th generation members of the Congregation.

Vice President Mery Gross

Mery joined Congregation Agudat Achim after moving to the Capital District from New York City in 1983. She has been chair of the Adult Education Committee for three years (2007 to 2010), following a two-year co-chairmanship of the Committee. She has also coordinated the Women’s Network Torah Fund fundraiser program for three years (2002 to 2004) and has served on the Board of Trustees since 2005.

Mery is a daughter of Polish Holocaust survivors who met at a Displaced Persons camp and started a new life in Bolivia after World War II. She holds a B.A. degree in Journalism and Latin American Literature and an M.A. degree in Spanish Literature from New York University. She works in the Communications Office at the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Mery lives in Niskayuna with her husband Dan. Both of their children, David and Katerina, attended religious school and were Bar/Bat-Mitzvahed at Congregation Agudat Achim.
